Does My Dog Have The Flu? – Natural Pet Dental

Can dogs get the flu?

Yes they can and they can die from it. In 2004 several racing greyhounds died and no one knew why until researchers discovered they had the flu.

Although most dogs will recover with proper care some may not such as elderly dogs. Like elderly people elderly dogs can become victims of the flu.

There is evidence that dogs can catch the flu from humans however, no evidence that you can catch the flu from them.

PastedGraphic-1Signs to look for:

1. Fever
2. Persistent cough
3. Runny nose
4. Feeling bad – no energy

Treatment for the dog flu is very similar to that for people, lots of rest and fluids. Talk to your vet regarding more treatments.

I write this article with a heavy heart. Our loving Pit Bull Terrier, Trinity died this last winter from the flu, she was 13 and elderly by dog years.

She was with us since she was a baby, we will always love you Trinity and we miss you badly.

Pet Cancer On Increase – Natural Pet Dental

pets

Like humans why are we seeing an increase in cancer for our pets?

Why is it that an alarming number of pets are diagnosed with cancer these days? It seems like every time I turn around another friend or friend of a friends pet has cancer?

Could it be that vaccines are the real culprit? Is it true that cancer is often diagnosed within a month after a pet’s annual vaccinations? Well according to Karri Miller, Central Florida’s only full-time board certified veterinary oncologist, vaccinating your cat with the typical, recommended feline vaccination schedule may lead to your furry friend developing cancer. Also, a telling admission about the serious risks associated with vaccines, Miller’s report highlights the fact that at least one out of every 10,000 cats develops “vaccine-associated sarcomas” as a result of getting vaccinated. Whether it is the mandatory rabies vaccine, or the host of other viral and bacterial vaccines commonly administered to felines, vaccinated cats admittedly have an increased risk of developing cancer in response to the injections.

But according to Dr. Don Hamilton, a veterinary homeopath in New Mexico, most pet vaccines are largely useless anyway because they cause “at least as much illness as they have ever prevented.” In many cases, he says, vaccines simply do not offer the protection their advocates claim they do, and they typically weaken pets’ immune systems and create more chronic illness than if those pets were allowed to simply develop their own natural immunity through proper nutrition (http://www.holisticat.com/vaccinations.html).

I think doing your research on vaccinations and maybe deciding not to give them to your pet may make you a better pet owner.

Cats And Babies – Old Wives Tales – Natural Pet Dental

baby-1In past years, before we knew anything of SIDS, if a dead infant was found and there happened to be a cat nearby then the cat got the blame. Keep in mind that a cat is extremely unlikely to suffocate a baby. Most cats dislike the smell of human breath so it’s not the milk or formula, what cat would like that anyway.

You know how curious cats can be and they may want to investigate a new baby. They will probably be curious and probably somewhat wary of the new and noisy arrival so don’t panic when he sniffs the crib or hangs around. Many cats soon lose interest and look for entertainment elsewhere. Some become self-appointed guardians to the new arrival and will want to watch you as you care for the baby. The warmth of a crib, with baby in residence or not, is attractive to cats though they usually stay away from a baby’s face.

baby-2Keep the nursery door closed or fit a screen door when baby is asleep, but make sure Puss is not accidentally shut inside the nursery. If the nursery is at ground level or accessible from a roof or wall, keep the nursery windows closed or fit mesh screens. This precaution will keep cats – including strays and neighbors’ cats – from entering from outdoors. A baby alarm or intercom will allow you to monitor baby.

Babies may have traces of milk around their mouths and a cat may try to lick it off however, if baby is drinking formula not so much. But it is extremely unlikely that a cat would harm a baby, let alone suffocate it.

Remember that it is not recommended that cats and babies sleep together!

Pet Teeth Cleaning Anesthesia Free – Natural Pet Dental

Did you know that people have essentially the same bacteria in their mouths as cats and dogs? And that their teeth or the enamel is the same too.

So why not have them cleaned as you would your own without anesthesia. Furthermore gingivitis is the first sign of periodontitis and gingivitis can be reversed with regular teeth cleaning.

As marginal gingivitis occurs, the edge of the free gingival margin begins to swell it loses its ability to cling to the tooth surface. As a result of the attack on the gingiva (gums) without periodic removal of plaque and calculus, bacterial colonies are established underneath the marginal gingiva. Gingivitis at this state is totally reversible. According to M Lynne Kesel DVM

Having your pet’s teeth cleaned as determined by our LVT’s can keep your pet’s teeth healthy without having to put your pet under anesthesia.
